About Łukasz Czapski

His journey with movement started from learning breaking in 1999. A few years later he founded the crew "Cats Claw" (breaking group), with which he travelled to many countries around the world to participate in breaking competitions and perform. During that he also started to research different techniques of style of moving. After finishing his master's degree in cultural management, he went to Austria to study contemporary dance at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.

As a professional dancer he has performed in El Salvador, Great Britain, France, Germany, Luxemburg, Croatia, Slovenia, Poland and Austria. He now lives in Vienna, works freelance, dances in projects, teaches and gives workshops all over Europe.

Description of the class

Flow like water practise is inspired by various forms of movement (contemporary dance, contact improvisation, breaking, acrobatics and martial arts) and consist of improvisation, floorwork, technical exercises and choreography. In improvisation we use all our possibilities to find our individual interests and strengths. In a playful way we learn to shift our attention to new places we can visit while dancing. As we learn the movements, we focus on executing them smoothly and effortlessly, without unnecessary tension, while focusing our attention on the transitions. Emphasising different parts of the body allows us to find greater awareness and articulation.

In the classes we focus on:

- finding connections between body parts

- finding a natural response to impulses

- finding a balance between effort and release

- smoothly transitioning between movements and levels (standing, jumping, floor) to improve flow

- playing with others

About Stefanie Sommer

Stefanie has a background in theatre & performance. She holds a BA in European Theatre Arts from Rose Bruford College, where she discovered yoga and movement improvisation.  After her MA in Movement: Teaching and Directing at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, she went on to teach movement at drama schools in the UK and performed in various projects, as well as created performances with Page One Theatre, a theatre company for young audiences.  She felt increasingly frustrated with the performance world and decided to move to Vienna to pursue a career in early years education & train as a yoga teacher. Now she combines her passions and works a few hours per week at a kindergarten, teaches yoga at various studios, teaches movement at VETA (Vienna English Theatre Academy) and occasionally performs with Page One Theatre, if the world situation allows.

Description of the class

Stefanie's creative yoga classes take inspiration from yoga asanas, intuitive movement & natural movement patterns. Her classes are also an invitation to view the body as a medium of expression and remember the playfulness of movement. Let's discover our practice with a curious mind-set and learn to trust our own experience. Stefanie's wish is to practice as a community without hierarchy and to open up a space for questions, inspiration, expression and exchange.
